Playing With The New Art Goodies

Here is what I bought with one of my vouchers on Saturday at the Rangitikei Quilt Show (from Creative Craft Supplies in Wellington):
Some Moon Shadow Mist and 2 embroidery threads. I'll use the threads in threadplay and/or some quilting highlights, and I have sprayed some calico with the Moon Shadow Mist:
The colour I bought is Incandescent Copper, which I though would be good to use on a variety of fabrics (like over-painting). This sample I did today is a bit blotchy and I didn't know whether the fabric had to be dry or damp. Next time I'll try a piece that is damp, just to see if it blends better.

OK, I tried another piece that was initially damp and it has turned out quite different. I have have now over-sprayed the above piece with water, so fingers crossed that it works OK. I'm guessing that I will have to heat set it.

Rangitikei Country Quilters Show

Yesterday some of my sewing group went to Marton to the enjoy the local quilt show. There were heaps of people and the Club were using a new venue (much better than previous years). The weather was absolutely ideal with no wind or rain, whereas visitors were reporting torrential rain and flooded rivers.
I managed to spend one of my vouchers which I won at Tote & Gloat, so will use the product and show you soon.
I took a couple of photos of quilts to share.
This one was one of many using the same block, but in different colourways:
Here is my Viewer's Choice nomination:
just love the colours and shapes, and lots of quilting! Mmmmm! may have to think about doing something like this :-)
There was also a Twelve Days of Christmas quilt made from a commercial Australian pattern, which I thought was very well made with a great choice of colours and fabrics - sorry no photo :-(
The guest exhibitor was Anna Williams (a Club member), who has a wide variety and exquisite work. They also had the NZ Quilter Suitcase exhibition quilts, and the NZ Hoffman Challenge quilts. Plus, a lovely mix of merchants.
All in all, we had a terrific few hours.

Saturday Snaps

Here are some more snapshots to share. They have been taken on my morning walks with Chloe.
native NZ toi toi
daffodils basking in the morning sun
3 different textures from the pinus radiata
This morning the weather is overcast, but we are expecting an Antarctica blast to sweep up the country. Currently we have no wind (very unusual), light drizzle and the temperature is mild for the season.

Hearts and Prayers to the People of Norway

What a huge loss of young lives Norway has sustained! With a population similar to New Zealand's, this will affect everyone personally in some way.
Our hearts and prayers go out to you all.
